RESEARCH

Axes

Five main areas of research structure the IHPST and define its major orientations. Each of these areas is under the responsibility of one or two researchers.

Biology, medicine, ecology (Philippe Huneman, Matteo Mossio)
Logic, mathematics, computer science (Francesca Poggiolesi and Pierre Wagner)
Physics, scientific knowledge, unity of sciences (Vincent Ardourel)
   Science, history, philosophy (Olivier Rey)
   Decision, reasoning, uncertainty (Marion Vorms)

Seminars

Several ongoing seminars are organized by IHPST researchers. The General Seminar brings together all members of the unit, beyond the various specialties. The PhilSci seminar on the philosophy of science is organized by and for doctoral students. Other specialized seminars, such as Philbio, Philmath, PhilSciCog, HistPhilPhys and Philosophie de la psychiatrie, bring together researchers from one of the five axes.

Projects

Research is also structured into funded projects under the scientific direction of one of the IHPST members. They fall within one of the five axes and generally last between one and four years. Funding sources include ANR, CNRS, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Una Europa, Campus France, the European Research Council, the City of Paris and the Île-de-France region.

recherche

Doctoral students

Doctoral students devote several years to exploring new fields of research, under the supervision of a professor, research director or other authorized person. IHPST doctoral students work in close contact with the unit's researchers, benefiting from their support and the resources (human, material, documentary and financial) made available to them. Some PhDs are financed by contract (CNRS or Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) or by research grants.

Post-docs and visiting researchers

The IHPST is part of a vast network of national and international collaborations. It welcomes post-docs and visiting researchers for periods ranging from a few weeks to two years, thanks to grants or funded projects.

Research activities and products

Researchers organize and take part in seminars, conferences, symposia and congresses, and produce articles, reports and books in their respective fields. They also contribute to the organization, evaluation and dissemination of research, as well as to scientific mediation and the training of students, PhD students and young researchers.
