Séminaire Philbio

Nous aurons le plaisir d'accueillir : Henrique Teotonio (IBENS), dont le sujet sera intitulé :  “The role of modeling in experimental evolution”.

Résumé :
Experimental evolution provides a framework for testing models of evolutionary dynamics under
controlled genetic and environmental conditions. Evolution can be observed in real time across multiple
replicate populations, allowing inferences about natural selection, genetic drift, mutation, and
recombination, based on the distribution of phenotypic and genotypic responses, and more recently,
phenomic and genomic changes. Experimental evolution also serves as a tool for discovery and
parameter estimation. In this seminar, I will discuss its advantages and limitations in discovery,
parameter estimation, inference, and predicting adaptation to changing environments, using several
exemplar studies with the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans.
