Titre: "Reasoning by Proxy: Basic Law V"

Résumé:  Why does Frege claim, in Grundgesetze, that his Axiom V "must be
regarded as a logical law"?  I will propose that Axiom V plays a
similar role for Frege that the notion of "constructing a concept"
plays in Kant's account of mathematical knowledge.  Both are trying to
capture the idea that in mathematical reasoning, we often need to
"turn a concept into an object" somehow, to work with a particular
representation of a concept rather than the concept itself.  I will
explain why I think this is important, and suggest some consequences
for our understanding of the role of Axiom V in Frege's logical system.
